Happenings and Featured work

Hello Reader! Its already been a busy month on my end! The Pensacola Plein Air Paint Out was happening April 3-6. Twenty-one local artists, including me, participated in three days of painting around Pensacola. I am so grateful that we had such good weather the entire weekend and rain held off until that Sunday. Seventy-five degrees and sunshine is hard to beat! In total, forty-two works were entered for judging and $2000 in prizes were given out. The paintings are available for sale at Quayside Art Gallery until April 20! If you’re in Pensacola area, you should check them out!

As for my winning a prize, I did get and honorable mention award for my painting of the Futuro / UFO House on Pensacola Beach. It was built in the 60s, when you could order the spaceship-like house from a magazine. It is now the headquarters of the Pensacola Historical Society. It was a fascinating subject to paint! There are only a hundred of them in the world. Fifteen of them are in the US!

I apologize for the sun glares on this work. The windows in the gallery were not working in my favor. It would be best to see them in person if you are able to!

Overall, It was a really fun weekend and I met some pretty awesome artists and art admirers! I even got a photo with a family that stopped by to see what I was painting and wanted a picture! It made my day when getting to meet them and so many other people who stopped by! It truly helps me get out of my comfort zone when painting in public, especially when I am limited to three hours per painting (that is forty-five minutes of just getting the drawing correct).

Here are a few paintings and locations that I painted so you can get a better idea of how plein air painting is.
